Where do I get copyright-free music for my stream?

Where do I get copyright-free music for my stream?

There are many copyright-free sources for music

Overview

As a Twitch Streamer, streaming copyrighted music may result in a DMCA takedown notice from the copyright owner, as well as portions of your VoD being muted.

The safest way to avoid your stream or VoDs getting muted (and potential penalties or copyright infringement claims) is to play royalty-free music.

Luckily, the Twitch Music Library is available to all Twitch broadcasters for free.

Twitch Music Library

The Twitch Music Library is a list of tracks that have been made available on a royalty-free basis to Twitch broadcasters for use exclusively on the Twitch platform within a broadcaster’s video streams. These tracks are able to be used in both live broadcasts and VODs on Twitch. Remixes and alternate versions of tracks may not always be cleared, so reference the exact tracks in the Twitch Music Library before you proceed.

Here are some rules pertaining to the use of music from the Twitch Music Library:

  • Singing covers is not ok unless you have the necessary rights from the copyright owner to do so. Performing music created by a musician other than yourself may make your content liable to a DMCA takedown request and may make you liable to a claim from the copyright owner.
  • Broadcasting DJ sets performed at house parties is not ok unless you have the necessary rights from each of the copyright owners to do so. Mixing music created by musicians other than yourself may make your content liable to a DMCA takedown request and may may make you liable to a claim from the copyright owner. The underlying music, including samples, will be subject to Twitch’s audio recognition system.
  • Music from the Twitch Music Library is only cleared for use on Twitch. VODs exported to YouTube are subject to YouTube's Content ID system.

For the most updated rules on use of music while streaming on Twitch, read the Twitch Music FAQ.
